What are the methods of extinguishing fire?
A fire, if not properly handled can be deadly or at least cause severe damage. The best way to protect oneself from the damages of fire is to avoid the occurrence of the fire in the first place; however, accidents are bound to happen. In the situations where a fire is already ignited, the best bet way is to safely and securely extinguish the fire. A fire can be extinguished via three ways;
- Starvation – separating or removing the burning material from near the fire will deprive the fire of its fuel source. If it does not have fuel it will die out.
- Blanketing – preventing the flow of air to the fire will deprive the fire of oxygen which is essential for a fire to burn. If it does not get air or oxygen, it will die out.
- Cooling – cooling the temperature of the burning materials will lower the heat and make the fire must less dangerous and it will eventually die out.
