Are beauty contests degrading to womanhood?

While there is nothing wrong with beauty contests per se, the problem lies in the manner in which they are used. One can compare the practice of beauty contests to parade women in short beautiful dresses and rating them on their beauty and skills to the age of practice of bringing people onto the stage in shackles and making them do tasks to show off their skills to see how much a person would be willing to pay for new slave. Both are age old practices that should not have any place in the modern world. Women are so much more than objects to be paraded, gawked at, and rated.
