What is an Implicit Intent?

An implicit Intent is used when there is a need to perform some action outside the application. In an implicit intent, the target components name is not provided, only the action to be performed is specified. If Implicit intent is used to perform some action, the Android system searches for all the components which are present and can perform that specific action. If only one component is found, it is started by default by the Android system.

For example: If there is a need to open a web page like “www.xyz.com”, the Android system searches for all the browsers present in the system and gives us the option to select which one to use for reaching that web page. If only one browser is present, it is used by default to open the web page.
